The HEP professional association RLP/Saarland, represented by the chairman Josef Helten and Berthold Haas, organized a symposium on 24.01.2026 in the youth hostel Trier on the topic
“People with complex multiple disabilities and their possibilities for integration into society – inclusion of severely disabled people: How can it succeed?”

There was a particularly pleasant surprise on arrival shortly before 10 a.m.:
Of the 20 or so participants, seven HEP students from our school took part: one student from the upper school and three each from the middle and lower school.

Although the specialist day was advertised during a visit by Josef Helten to the sixth form in the fall of 2025, the commitment is by no means a matter of course given the high academic and practical workload. It is therefore all the more pleasing that, in addition to pupils from the Kettig support and residential facilities where Josef Helten works, students from other institutions were also represented.

This participation impressively demonstrates the great professional interest, motivation and attitude of our students towards key topics such as inclusion, participation and social responsibility.

The symposium offered valuable impulses, professional exchange and practical perspectives – and left a very positive impression on all participants.

It was with great sadness that the school community at Alice Salomon School learned of the death of our colleague Ansgar Cordie last Monday. In the approximately 15 years that Ansgar worked at our school, we came to appreciate him as a person and a teacher. As a highly intelligent person with a comprehensive education and a wide range of interests, his main area of work was the vocational preparation year. Here he was able to achieve great success with his skills and helped many students to make a new start through unusual teaching methods, so that they were able to regain courage and take their future into their own hands. He had confidence in the students, and they proved to him that he was right to have confidence in them.

He has tirelessly and actively supported the development of our school. He wrote the first-person texts for the mission statement, there were theater performances at Christmas time, and he showed great interest in making the Alice Salomon School a place of learning that people enjoy attending.

Last year, his condition deteriorated significantly and he was no longer able to carry out his duties. We thought of him a lot during the months of his serious illness.

Ansgar was a valuable colleague for us, we held him in high esteem and will remember him fondly.

We would like to congratulate Yvonne Eberhard on successfully passing her second state examination in nursing and ethics.

During her training, she was mentored by Claudia Scheidt in both subjects and received valuable impulses that supported her on her way to her exams.

The examination board, consisting of Tom Lenz, Martin John and the specialist managers Marion Holzhüter and Sascha Schuckert, were impressed by Yvonne Eberhard’s confident manner and teaching skills.

Our principal Doris Schulte-Schwering and deputy principal Holger Waldecker also congratulate her warmly and, together with the entire school community, are delighted that Yvonne Eberhard will remain with our school as a teacher in the future.

Our trainee teacher Miriam Kron has successfully completed her second state examination in English and nursing. This crowns her training with an outstanding result, which not only fills her, but also her mentors Ulrike Schilk-Steinhaus and Marco Gilles with great joy.

The examination board, consisting of Carsten Müller, Sascha von Gertruiden and the subject managers Timo Speitzer and Sascha Schuckert, were also very satisfied with Ms. Kron’s performance.

Principal Doris Schulte-Schwering, Deputy Head Holger Waldecker and the entire school community would like to congratulate Ms. Kron on this important milestone. We are delighted and wish her every success for the future.

Georg Becker started his traineeship at BBS Alice Salomon in 2004 at the age of 48. At that time, he already had an eventful professional life behind him:

• Deputy ward manager in intensive care at Giessen University Hospital
• Head of Nursing at the Urology Clinic of the University of Giessen
• Collaboration in the staff unit for workflow organization and budget optimization
• Introduction and organization of quality management at the university hospital

Although Georg Becker never wanted to become a teacher, he enjoyed his job until he retired. He always had a good relationship with his pupils and treated them with honesty and sincerity.

The school community of BBS Alice Salomon bids farewell to a long-time teacher, colleague and friend. Our sympathy goes out to his family at this difficult time.

With his passion for professional nursing, he shaped the training at our school for many years. With his empathy and patience, he was often a support and a rock for students and colleagues. His calmness and humor will remain in our hearts.

BBS Alice Salomon has long been committed to education for sustainable development throughout the school community. In addition to the ESD Spring Festival held on 25.04.2024 and the establishment of Education for Sustainable Development as an internal school development goal, there was another highlight for our school on Wednesday, 30.10.2024.

As part of the certification process, Mr. Hartmann and Mr. Hillingshäuser-Marx from the Pädagogisches Landesinstitut visited us to get an impression of our practice in the context of Education for Sustainable Development.

We were able to present them with a varied program that the ESD team had prepared in advance with the support of our principal Ms. Schulte-Schwering and our pedagogical director Mr. Kappesz.

At a round table in Linz, Ms. Schule-Schwering and Mr. Kappesz, together with Anne Gasper, Marco Gilles, Alisa Krämer and Iradet Bajrami as representatives of the ESD team as well as students from the teachers’ classes, were able to give a lasting impression of our numerous ESD projects during a presentation.

During a subsequent joint tour of the school building and grounds, Mr. Hartmann and Mr. Hillingshäuser-Marx had the opportunity to tour the building and talk to colleagues and pupils to gain a comprehensive picture of our everyday school life and our approach to education for sustainable development.

The entertaining program was crowned by the commitment of our housekeeping colleagues, who accompanied the whole day with healthy, seasonal and regional drinks and delicacies from the kitchen.

Mr. Hartmann and Mr. Hillingshäuser-Marx gave us very positive feedback afterwards and were able to promise us that certification as an ESD school would be granted soon after all the bureaucratic hurdles had been overcome.

We can therefore already say that we have reached another milestone in our ESD goals with the upcoming certification, which we are very pleased about.

After 18 years in the BBS Alice Salomon secretarial office, Marlene Pees is taking her well-deserved retirement. The entire staff and the school management would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our long-serving secretary. Marlene Pees was an extremely reliable secretary who, with her even-tempered and humorous manner, was often the “calming influence” for both teachers and pupils in a busy world. “Marlene, we will miss you,” said Doris Schulte-Schwering in her farewell speech. “We wish you all the very best for your retirement and hope that we will see you again often at our school.”
