How teachers at BBS Alice Salomon are getting up to speed digitally – study day on the topic of digitalization
At the end of the school year, the teachers at BBS Alice Salomon have to get back to work: The study day on digitalization with the motto “From app to note memory – How the teachers at BBS Alice Salomon are getting digitally up to speed” started on 17.07.2023 at the Bad Honnef Youth Hostel.
After an open arrival and the official welcome by principal D. Schulte-Schwering and the planning team for the study day, Mr. Krüger (CBS and ADD Koblenz) introduced the ASS staff to the depths and breadths of the “Schulcampus” platform. In addition to an exciting presentation, there was of course plenty of time for the staff to ask questions about the new school platform, which they made good use of.
After a varied and very tasty lunch, the colleagues were able to intensify the knowledge they had acquired about the school campus in five small groups after the lunch break. They were supported by Mr. Krüger, Mr. Köhler-Tepelmann (Kreismedienzentrum Neuwied) and Ms. Gedenk (Medienzentrum Ahrweiler) as well as Mr. Schnell (ASS) and Mr. Waldecker (ASS).
At the end of the day, the event was reflected on using the digital method “Mentimeter”, which was not known to all colleagues and thus expanded the digital repertoire of one colleague or the other.
As the staff of the Alice Salomon School did not just want to get ready for the coming school year in terms of the school campus, they went one better the next morning at 08:00 at the school site in Linz:
As part of an internal teacher training course, the teaching staff had a choice of seven micro-training courses, four barcamps and an iPad basic training course. The special feature: The morning was designed by external speakers (Mr. Köhler-Tepelmann KMZ Neuwied; Mr. Rodigast KMZ Neuwied; Ms. Gedenk MZ Ahrweiler; Mr. Irsch Stadtbildungsstelle Koblenz) as well as internal speakers from the ASS.
In addition to digital tools such as “Kahoot”, “Onco”, “Canva” or “Simpleshow”, two different events on Moodle and an event on the “digital class register” and “AI” were also offered by colleagues from the ASS. At this point, special thanks go to: C. Becker, H. Becker, I. Bajrami, A. Gasper, F. Scheffler, W. Schnell and M. Theophanous for their willingness to share their expert knowledge with the teaching staff.
The workshops held by external speakers included 180 minutes of basic iPad training as well as two events on creating presentations with the iPad and using it as a blackboard replacement and two in-depth barcamps on lesson design with the school campus.
The second day was rounded off with a short reflection. Teachers had the opportunity to record their thoughts and feedback in a padlet in the form of short tweet-like posts over the previous 1.5 days and were asked to continue to use this opportunity after the event.
A big thank you goes to the planning team consisting of A. Albiez, Y. Bachem, H. Becker, C. Stinner, M. Storm, M. Theophanous, H. Waldecker, who worked together very constructively and reliably, and C. Becker, who took part in the planning meetings on behalf of the local personnel council.
A special thank you to Mr. Rings for organizing the catering on the second day and to the public relations team, namely J. Döring, A. Gasper, C. Scheidt and K. Schick, who meticulously recorded the 1.5 days and presented them on Instagram with a variety of posts!
