Successful professional activity in home economics requires a high degree of flexibility and independent work on a daily basis in order to meet increased quality requirements. Our HBL technical college enables students to acquire skills in interdisciplinary and professional fields of action in home economics and to obtain the professional title of state-certified home economics manager (§ 22 of the state ordinance on technical colleges). In the modularized, digital form, we promote and support the competence of the students in the professional environment and combine compatibility with work and perhaps family. The state government is strengthening further education institutions. This means that competencies are required, such as independence in carrying out the assigned tasks with a simultaneous increase in work areas, responsibility, integration into different teams (= complexity), independent acquisition and passing on of knowledge, communication skills, including in a foreign language (in our case: English), teamwork skills, handling presentation and moderation techniques, IT knowledge, problem-solving and decision-making skills and, last but not least, personal initiative.

According to § 21 (1) LVO-FS, admission requirements in the specialist area of nutrition and home economics at the technical college are generally

  1. A qualified secondary school leaving certificate I or a qualification recognized as equivalent
    and
  2. Completion of at least two years of relevant vocational training regulated by federal or state law and completion of vocational school, provided that attendance at vocational school was compulsory during the vocational training, followed by at least one year of relevant professional activity.

Number 2 can be replaced by completion of vocational school and at least five years of relevant professional experience in a large household. Up to two years of independent management of a multi-person household may be credited towards this professional activity. Vocational training and professional activity are relevant if they correspond to the respective field of study. If the completed vocational training is not relevant, the duration of relevant professional activity required under number 2 is increased to two years. If the professional activity cannot be proven upon entry to the course, it must be completed from the start of attendance at the technical college in the case of part-time courses and, in the case of full-time courses, at the latest when half of the teaching hours of the course have been completed; a full-time course must be interrupted for the completion of the professional activity. If the student has not completed vocational training or has not completed vocational training corresponding to the respective subject area, at least half of the required relevant professional activity must already have been completed by the time the student enters the course.

You will acquire qualified professional skills that will enable you to take on management tasks at middle management level in the service sector of housekeeping. The most common areas of employment for housekeeping management include facilities such as retirement, youth and children’s homes, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, sanatoriums, therapy facilities, conference centers, hotels, company restaurants and canteens, communal catering facilities in kindergartens and schools, outpatient service centers as well as counseling and training centers of various institutions.

The part-time course lasts 3 years and is designed to be taken alongside work. The technical college is offered in a combination of online and face-to-face teaching. Lessons take place two afternoons a week.

 

The development of the modules is divided into asynchronous work phases (work with individual time management), synchronous online events (web conferences, chats, etc., with compulsory attendance) and face-to-face events at our premises in Linz. The modular form of organization also offers the possibility of completing only parts of the training and receiving a separate certificate. The sequence of modules is determined by the school before the start of the course. Each module is certified individually. Participation in individual modules with state certification is possible if the graduate fulfills the above-mentioned admission requirements.

In this module, you will acquire the instructor aptitude in accordance with the Instructor Aptitude Ordinance (AEVO). You will receive theoretical and practical preparation in class and take the state examination at the ADD RLP. The examination consists of a written and a practical part. Passing the exam qualifies you to work as an instructor. The preparatory course can also be taken individually without taking the other modules of the technical college.
