Higher vocational school — nutrition and care

  • Qualified secondary school leaving certificate I or
  • a qualification recognized as equivalent
  1. “State-certified home economics assistant” (completed vocational training in school form)
  2. “State-certified housekeeper” (completed vocational training in the dual system) *
  3. General Fachhochschulreife after passing the Fachhochschulreife examination and an additional internship of 14 weeks **): Degrees 2. and 3. are voluntary options.

2 years full-time

  • Professional activity as a housekeeping assistant or as a housekeeper in a large household, private household or in the catering trade
  • Attending a technical college for curative education or geriatric care
  • Further training:
    e.g. e.g. housekeeping manager, master craftsman in urban housekeeping
  • Study at all universities of applied sciences in the Federal Republic of Germany
  • 12 weeks in dual form during school time (14-day block internship,
  • then 1 day per week (always on Tuesdays) in the first three semesters,
  • 1 block week before the summer vacation)
  • In addition, an elective internship of four weeks during the vacations for the additional qualification: “State-certified housekeeper”
  • Focus of the internship: nutrition and service, living and cleaning, textile care and maintenance
  • After the first year of school, it is possible to switch to dual training.
  1. The final examination to become a home economics assistant takes place in written and oral form, including a project work in the subject BBU.
    Anyone who does not achieve a sufficient grade in the subject “Vocational instruction” has failed the final examination.
  2. The final examination to become a housekeeper in accordance with § 40.3 takes place in written and practical form.
    The examination must be taken before an external examination board.
  3. The Fachhochschulreife examination takes place in written and oral form.
