Alice cares: A day of appreciation and insight under the sign of care

On the second day of the celebratory week to mark the 125th anniversary of the Alice Salomon School, we dedicated ourselves to nursing in a special way. The nursing team opened its doors and offered a wide range of students and interested guests the opportunity to gain a deep and multifaceted insight into nursing training. An outstanding experience of the day was the age simulation, which impressively demonstrated to the participants how the perception of sight, hearing and feeling changes with increasing age. Visitors also gained valuable insights into the experiences of people with dementia and physical limitations. This perspective sharpened their understanding of the challenges that people in need of care face in everyday life. In addition to this impressive simulation, kinaesthetics was also at the heart of the event. Through targeted exercises, the participants were not only able to experience the importance of their own body awareness, but also understand the importance of mindfulness and targeted support in the care process. The physical well-being was also taken care of: freshly baked waffles, cake and coffee invited participants to linger and chat.

Our special thanks go to our guests Philipp Rasbach, Christian Krause and Dirk Arenz from the Neuwied district and Michael Mahlert. Their active participation in the day’s events underlined the importance of nursing and played a key role in giving the nursing profession and culture a well-deserved visibility. Many thanks also go to the entire nursing team under the leadership of Christine Schemmer, the course director, for the first-class organization and loving design of this special day. Their commitment and dedication played a key role in making this day an unforgettable experience.
