The BF I provides first aid in the BVJ
“Because the recovery position can save lives” was just one of the reasons why the Vocational College I with a focus on health/nursing decided to share its expertise on the recovery position with the vocational preparation year.
If a person is found unconscious, for example after an accident, the recovery position is often the safest position. It ensures that body fluids such as blood or vomit can drain from the mouth and the airways are not blocked. If you know how to apply the recovery position, you can save lives in an emergency! But how does it work?
After the BFI students had first learned about the background and implementation of the recovery position themselves and practiced it in practical nursing lessons, they designed an information event for the BVJ in the spirit of peer education. There, they shared their theoretical and practical skills with the BVJ students and practiced the recovery position in small teams in order to gain more confidence in the event of an emergency.
The feedback from both classes on this exchange was consistently positive and was described as beneficial… “because it’s easier to learn at eye level”!
