Vocational school I Nursing on reflection days in Jünkerath

The BF1GP23e of the BBS Alice Salomon in Linz, school location Neuwied, made its way to Jünkerath with twelve female and three male students as part of a familiarization trip from 22.11 to 24.11.2023.

The class leadership team, consisting of Ms. Claudia Scheidt and Mr. Holger Waldecker, accompanied the trip to the Don Bosco meeting place. Don Bosco is a Christian meeting place and offers schools a variety of opportunities for a personality-strengthening and experience-rich encounter with people and current issues of our time.

The outward journey to Jünkerath proved to be somewhat challenging and it took six hours by public transport to reach the destination. However, the long journey did nothing to dampen the class’s composure and sense of humor.

Two days of team and relationship-building activities were held with external trainers Ms. Kim Kiupel and Ms. Catherine Toussant from Haus Don Bosco. The two trainers quickly “hit it off” with the young people and the class was open and interested in the wide range of activities on offer right from the start. Ms. Kiupel commented: “Rarely have we had such a likeable class here on site, which as a class demonstrates good cohesion and many social skills”.

On the third day, Ms. Claudia Scheidt held an engaging first aid course for the pupils at Don Bosco’s premises, which included many practical teaching phases. This course is a very valuable support for the young people’s everyday lives, ties in wonderfully with the learning content of the subject-related “Care/Health” lessons at school and is a good link to the school first aid service at BBS Alice Salomon, in which students from the class participate.

The students and the two class leaders had a lot of fun on the class trip and often spent their evenings together in the games room. Everyone will have fond memories of the familiarization trip and both the students and the teachers would like to repeat this trip immediately. The entire class community was strengthened by this trip. Ms. Scheidt summarized: “A class trip means a lot of planning and organizing for us as class leaders, but it also makes it very clear how enriching this school trip is on a human level and how fulfilling working with young people is.
